How To Get Straight Hair At Home? Here’s Everything You Need To Know!

All my college life, I struggled to turn my wavy hair straight. The ironing technique didn’t seem like a healthy choice, as it made my appearance look artificial, and wreaked havoc on the quality of my hair. In no time, my hair was all dry, dull, and brittle. Only if I knew that there were a number of ingredients lying in my kitchen that could help me get straight hair, naturally, while maintaining, or even enhancing, the overall health of my hair, I wouldn’t have had to go through such a trauma, in the first place! But now that I know about these, and have tried them myself, I am sharing the home remedies for straight hair with you all!

Here are my top ten home remedies that can help you achieve straight hair, naturally.

1. Hot oil treatments

One of the oldest, easiest and most effective ways of getting straight hair naturally is by keeping it smooth and hydrated, and to that end, hot oil treatments are wonderful. Warm oil lends both heat and moisture saturation to our waves and curls, which helps relax them, giving them a straighter pattern. Your best bets for a hot oil treatment are olive, coconut, almond and sesame oil.

  • In your microwave, heat the oil of your choice (choose from the options I mentioned earlier). Heat only for 20 seconds.
  • Once the oil is lukewarm, apply it on your scalp. Massage for 10 minutes.
  • Now apply the oil all over your hair.
  • Make sure the oil is not uncomfortably hot, but not cold either.
  • Now, comb your hair properly to ensure the oil gets evenly distributed. Also, by doing this, you will be preventing the breakage of hair while shampooing it.
  • Using a hot towel, cover your hair for one hour.
  • Wash your hair using an organic mild shampoo.
  • Now, use a wide-toothed comb to untangle your waves while it is still wet.
  • Do not dry your hair using a dryer.

A word of caution: You should not use a brush to comb your wet hair as it increases breakage.

2. Coconut milk

Coconut milk helps straighten the waves. It is a great moisturizer, and that way, it lends our hair luster and a healthy shine too. Along with these benefits, coconut milk is also anti-fungal, antiviral and antibacterial, and because of that, it helps keep our scalp infection-free.

  • Add a cup of fresh coconut milk in a clean glass jar.
  • Now add into it, the juice of one fresh and juicy lemon.
  • The creamy layer should rise to the top.
  • Now, massage your scalp and hair using this cream.
  • Leave the cream on for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • You should cover your hair with a shower cap so that your hair absorbs the moisture and you don’t mess your clothes.
  • After 30 minutes, shampoo your hair using a mild cleanser. Use a conditioner too.
  • Use a comb to untangle your hair while it is wet.
  • Allow your hair to air dry.

3. Milk

Milk, as we all know, has amazing moisturizing properties that can straighten our hair. Plus, milk protein also strengthens hair shafts. It makes the hair less frizzy and smoother.

  • In a cup, mix milk and water in a ratio of 1:1.
  • Store this blend in an old but clean spray bottle.
  • Untangle your hair using a wide-toothed comb, and spray this mixture all over your hair.
  • Leave this on as a hair mask for half an hour, after which, you can rinse off with lukewarm water. Shampoo using your regular shampoo, and do not forget to condition your hair.
  • Alternatively, you can mix two teaspoons of honey in a cup of natural milk. Mash four to five strawberries, and drop it into the milk. Apply the blend to your hair as a natural hair mask, and wrap using a towel.
  • After two hours, wash your hair using a mild shampoo.
  • Untangle the hair with a wide-toothed comb while it is still wet.
  • Air dry your hair.

The other thing that I absolutely love is weddings! Well, who doesn’t like being in a room full of love stories, eh?!
