Do Your Myers Briggs Personality Traits Have A Say In Your Relationships?

A relationship is a connection which involves constant intimate interaction between two people. Even though relationships can occur between any two people, whether friends or family, we are going to talk about the romantic relationship that exists between two individuals, and the effect that their respective personalities have on their shared relationship.

What are Myers Briggs personality attributes?

According to Wikipedia, the Myers Briggs personality test is defined as the following:

The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an introspective self-report questionnaire with the purpose of indicating differing psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. The MBTI was constructed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers.

If you go their website, you will see a range of questions about yourself and your characteristic and behavioral patterns, which you can answer by selecting a range of options from “strongly disagree to strongly disagree”. The questions are designed to get a deep psychological insight into your mind, and the reason you get to fill it up is because no one knows you better than yourself.

Carl Gustav Jung had propounded the theory that human psychology, which inevitably affects their personality, can be divided into 16 distinct stereotypes. This theory was adopted by Myers and Briggs, and they developed this test, which gave people a combination of personality types to create their own unique and distinct personality. The test can have 16 possible results, and you will get yours based on the answers that you give. These 16 personalities are further divided into 4 broad categories, with 4 personality types under each category. Here are the categories, and the various personality types which belong to each.

1. Analysts

2. Diplomats

 3. Sentinels

4. Explorers

If none of this makes sense to you at the moment, it is perfectly understandable. However, each of the letters in each combination stand for a distinct trait in your personality, which makes up your personality type, which finally puts you in any one of the four broad categories.

Personalities and Relationships

People would like to believe that certain relationships in life are unconditional and meant to be; that nothing can adversely affect the bond that they share with people they love. However, that isn’t usually the case. A relationship works out and stays positive and healthy when there is active participation between two people and they are inherently compatible with each others’ personalities.
