Some people have curly hair naturally because of twisted hair follicles. So, more the twists, curlier will be your hair. Curly hair, as you know, can be both a boon and a bane. Though it is bouncier, more voluminous and beautiful, it can be dry, difficult to manage, hard to style and unruly.

The chief problem that is faced by people with curly hair is that it is likely to frizz, and when hit with humidity, you are sure to lose your mind over how your hair, behaves worse, than a young teenager!

Curly hair is also more prone to split ends, roughness and breakage. Brushing it worsens the situation, right? Now you can easily guess what the thumb rule is when it comes to maintaining curly hair: Reduce the frizz, and try and keep your hair as conditioned as possible.

The market is overflowing with products that you can use to smoothen and soften your frizzly curls. But though these will give you immediate results, they will harm your hair more, in the long run. Here are some natural remedies that you can use to tame the curls!

Home remedies for curly hair

1. Apple cider vinegar

When it comes to managing natural curls and giving them better definition, apple cider vinegar is the first remedy that comes to my mind. The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar allows you to preserve proper pH level of your hair, which in turn, helps make the hair less frizzy. It also lends luster to the hair. It is a natural hair clarifier, which helps get rid of product accumulation from our hair.

Remedies

  • Mix water and apple cider vinegar in a ratio of 1:1.
  • Now, shampoo your hair using your regular shampoo. Use the diluted apple cider vinegar for the last rinse.
  • Let the solution sit for a couple of minutes.
  • Wash your hair with cold water.
  • This remedy must be carried out twice a month for best results.

2. Beer

Beer is amazing for hair, any hair! It replenishes the hair moisture and revitalizes our curls. Beer also renders the curls softer, bouncier and more lustrous.

Remedies

  • First, wash your hair with your everyday shampoo.
  • For the last rinse, use beer. Make sure you cover each strand.
  • Now let the beer sit for five minutes to allow it to penetrate your hair shafts.
  • Using cold water, rinse your hair thoroughly.
  • This remedy must be followed twice every month.

Pro tip: Dark, non-alcoholic beer works best for curly hair.

3. Hot oil massage

Since curly hair tends to be dry, hot oil massage can do it some real good. It enhances the moisture and gives the hair a conditioned look. Olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil are your best options.

Remedies

  • Use your microwave to heat the oil for two minutes.
  • Once it cools to room temperature, apply it on your scalp. Make sure the oil isn’t uncomfortably hot.
  • Massage your scalp and your hair, from the root to the tip.
  • Wrap your head with a hot towel. You can use a shower cap to ensure your towel is not ruined.
  • After an hour, use your regular products to shampoo and condition your hair.
  • This remedy must be followed for at least a week.

Remedies

  • In water soak five fenugreek seeds, through the night.
  • Now, grind the seeds to create a thick paste.
  • Into the paste, add six teaspoons of unflavored yogurt and two teaspoons of olive oil.
  • Now massage this paste onto the scalp.
  • Let it sit for an hour.
  • Wash your hair with lukewarm water and your regular shampoo.
  • This treatment must be repeated twice a week.

Aloe vera can smoothen our hair cuticle. This, in turn, lends shine to our hair. Aloe vera is loaded with 20 minerals, 12 vitamins, and 18 amino acids. The nutrients help improve the overall health of your hair.

Remedies

  • Extract aloe vera gel from the plant and apply it on your scalp. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes.
  • Now rinse with lukewarm water after which you can use a mild shampoo to wash it properly.
  • For best results, repeat the therapy twice a week.

8. Carbonated water

Carbonated water defines our curls and helps get rid of the frizz. The low pH helps make the hair extra soft and shinier.

 Remedies

  • With an equal amount of water, dilute carbonated water.
  • Now shampoo your hair using your regular cleanser and wash with cold water.
  • For the final rinse, use diluted carbonated water.
  • Allow your hair to dry without using a drier.
