This Wes Anderson-themed Wedding Photo Shoot Is Truly Adorable!

Themed-wedding photo shoots have become quite popular in recent years. And why not? Why should only marriage proposals get all the attention? Wedding photo shoots are just as important, no?

After the stunning and incredibly surreal underwater wedding photo shoot in Hawaii, we bring to you a stylized movie director Wes Anderson-themed wedding photo shoot. Yep, that’s right.

Jennifer and her husband are huge Wes Anderson fans, and the couple set out to create a stylized Wes Anderson-themed wedding photo shoot as the perfect homage to the filmmaker.

The photo shoot was shot in location at The Inn at Irwin Gardens in Columbus, Indiana, and was styled in part by Ashleigh Fisher of AWF Events. The shoot was largely inspired by one particular Anderson movie, The Royal Tenanbaums. The beautiful shoot is set to be featured in an upcoming issue of Utterly Engaged magazine, and vendors from all over the country helped put it together.

Speaking about the shoot, the 29-year-old photographer said,

“Each detail was chosen to be a reflection of Wes Anderson’s characters and the scenes of many of his movies.”

“When it comes to the cinematography in his movies, I love the symmetry and the unconventional composition of love scenes,” she said. “Personally, his main characters are a huge inspiration for me.”

As the shoot was cinematic in nature, Jennifer’s decision to use actors instead of models, paid off. The pictures are absolutely amazing. She explained,

“Since we were creating a shoot inspired by movies, it was important to create emotion and movement within the images.”

The color scheme was taken from Anderson’s latest, The Grand Budapest Hotel, along with the invitation, which resembles the movie’s poster. The bride’s dress and the way the campfire picture was shot were both a reference to Moonrise Kingdom. The suitcase and the elephant detail were a nod to The Darjeeling Limited, while the baby blue details were from the Bill Murray-starrer The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

Jennifer explained,

“Even the details and meals on the menu card reflect what we thought would be served at a wedding in a Wes Anderson movie.”

Further, she added,

“Although we used a lot of inspiration from his other movies, our whole goal was to create a collection that looked like Wes Anderson planned a wedding for his characters for our current time period by putting a creative twist on some of the details.”

Every detail from the bridesmaid’s dress to the flowers to the bouquet was inspired by one or the other of Anderson’s movies. And Jennifer’s favorite part of the whole shoot? The flowers! They were provided by florist The Farmer’s Daughters’ Market.

Speaking about the flowers, Jennifer said,

“Picking a location to capture that detail and rearranging the surrounding area of the Inn at Irwin Gardens was the most fun for me just because I loved the look of the flowers so much.”

“I love that Wes Anderson’s characters are redeemable,” added Van Elk. “I like the idea that everyone, no matter how shallow or deep, is redeemable.”

Although Jennifer found that mimicking Anderson’s lighting, she did manage it, with the awesome results for all to see. She even admitted that it was her ‘favorite challenge.’ In the end though, she was ‘pretty happy with the outcome.’
