  • Increase in sebum production by sebaceous glands, which results in overgrowth of irritating pimples and acnes.
  • Pimples are usually caused during puberty, as a result of intensified secretion of sex hormones like androgen.
  • When oil gets trapped in the pores of our skin’s mid-layer, pimples occur.
  • The sebaceous glands produce sebum, which contains bacteria the causes inflammations like pimples.
  • Pimples can also be caused genetically.
  • Dirt gets clogged up in the pores of our skin, which intensifies formation of pimples.
  • Poor hygiene and inadequate cleansing routines to get rid of makeup can also result in pimple formation.
  • Wearing a very tight helmet can cause a mechanical pressure to build around the straps and get exerted on our faces, resulting in the formation of pimples.
  • Pimples are sometimes side effects of certain medications.
  • Hormone associated activity, accumulation of dirt and dead skin cells, and increase in bacterial tissues cause a triple combination that result in pimples.

Kinds of pimples

There are two types of pimples, namely, Pustules and Papules. Pustules are a cutaneous condition where there is a formation of a small elevation. These pimples can be red or even white. They consist inflammatory cells and fluid that is made of necrotic particles.

1. Ice

Ice gives quick relief from any kind of redness, inflammation and/or swelling. It also enhances blood circulation to the area that is affected, and tightens the skin pores. Ice helps remove dirt and accumulated oil from the skin pores. For this treatment of pimples, you can either use ice cubes or even crushed ice; use what is most convenient for you.

Remedies

  • Wrap the ice cubes or crushed ice in a piece of cloth.
  • Hold the cloth on the skin that is affected by pimples for a minute.
  • Wait for another couple of minutes, repeat the treatment.

2. Lemon

Lemon juice is another brilliant home remedy used to treat pimples. Lemon is rich in vitamin C, which helps dry up the pimple faster. Do not use bottled juice, however. Squeeze some lemon juice for yourself from a fresh lemon. There are different ways in which you can apply this treatment.

Remedies

  • Take a clean cotton swab.
  • Dip it in fresh lemon juice.
  • Apply the cotton on the pimple before hitting the bed.
  • Alternatively, you can mix two teaspoons of lemon juice with half a tablespoon of cinnamon powder. Apply the mix on your pimple, and keep it overnight. The next morning, wash the affected area with lukewarm water.

A word of caution: Those with sensitive skin should not apply this remedy.

3. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is one of the best remedies for acne and pimples, owing to its antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It helps fight the bacteria which cause most of the skin-related problems. Also, tea tree oil has soothing properties, which makes it an amazing cure for any kind of redness, irritation or inflammation. It dries out black and white heads, too.

Remedies

  • Dip a ball of cotton in small amount of tea tree oil.
  • Dab the cotton on the affected skin.
  • Keep the oil on for another 20 minutes.
  • Rinse the oil with lukewarm water.
  • Alternatively, you can mix a couple of drops of tea tree oil with two teaspoons of aloe vera gel. Apply this blend on your pimples, acne or other blemishes. Leave the mix on for at least twenty minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

A word of caution: People with sensitive skin should not try their hands on this remedy.

4. Toothpaste

Yes, you read that right! Your toothpaste not only cleanses your teeth and breath, but can also treat pimples quickly. The following ice remedy that we are going to tell you about in detail, makes toothpaste a very effective treatment for pimples.

Note: DO NOT use toothpaste which comes in the form of gel.

Remedies

  • Apply little bit of white toothpaste on the area that is affected.
  • Apply it before going to bed.
  • The next morning, wash your face using lukewarm water. You will notice that the swelling has improved, drastically.

If you want, you can always repeat this process again once in the day time. However, make certain that the toothpaste stays on the affected area for at least an hour.

5. Steam

Steaming is great when it comes to healing pimples or skin eruptions. The steam helps open your pores, which allows your skin to breathe properly. This in turn helps in getting rid of dirt, accumulated oils, and bacteria trapped in the pores of your skin, which are the primary causes of pimple, as you must have read early on in this guide.

  • Fill a container, preferably a large container, with water.
  • Bring the water to boil.
  • Once the water boils, pour it carefully in a bucket.
  • Now take a clean towel, and cautiously lean over the water while covering your head with the towel.
  • Let the affected area breathe in the steam for at least 5 minutes.
  • Now rinse your affected skin with lukewarm water.
  • After you pat your skin dry, apply an oil-free moisturizer.

6. Garlic

Garlic is antiviral, antimicrobial and antifungal. Well, its therapeutic qualities do not end there. Garlic is also a great antiseptic. It, therefore, treats pimples really quick. Garlic contains sulfur that easily heals pimples.

Remedies

  • Cut a garlic clove into two neat pieces. Make sure the clove is fresh.
  • Now, rub it on your pimples.
  • Leave the juice of the garlic on the affected area for about 5 minutes.
  • Now, wash it off using lukewarm water.
  • Repeat the remedy at least thrice a day for the desired results.

Pro tip: Consuming a raw garlic clove a day aides the purification of blood. However, eating too much of it can upset your stomach. Maintain a balance.

7. Baking soda

Baking soda is a fantastic remedy for pimples. It allows you to exfoliate your skin. It helps remove dirt and dead skin cells in no time.

Remedies

  • Take half a tablespoon of baking soda, and mix it with some water or lemon juice.
  • Now before you begin applying the paste, wash the affected area properly, and leave it slightly damp.
  • Now apply the paste on the skin.
  • Let the paste dry a little. However, make sure the dryness does not irritate the skin further.
  • Now wash your face with lukewarm water.

8. Honey

  • Leave the honey on for half an hour, at least.

9. Cucumber

  • Cut one cucumber into pieces. Make sure it is fresh.
  • Now soak the pieces in water for an hour. This allows the cucumber’s nutrients to get osmosed into the water.

10. Papaya

Papaya has numerous qualities which help get rid of pimples. It is an excellent source of enzymes that reduce irritations and inflammations. It also contains Vitamin A that helps make the skin soft and smooth.

Remedies

  • Cut a raw papaya into pieces.
  • Now crush it and extract the juice.
  • Apply the juice on the affected area.
  • Leave it on the face for at least 15 minutes.
  • Now rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  • Alternatively, you can use it as an exfoliating mask. To make yourself this mask, you have to cut the papaya into pieces, and mash it. Now add some honey to it. Apply this paste on the affected area, lightly. Leave the mask on and allow it to dry. Once almost dried, rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow the treatment with oil-free moisturizer.
