The underlying principle at work behind fasting is to be found in the annals of Ayurveda. Ayurveda identifies the root cause of many illnesses as the accumulation of toxic substances in the body. It therefore, encourages fasting as an effective mechanism to detoxify the body. Complete abstinence from food for a whole day helps the body purge itself of toxic elements. Ayurveda recommends the intake of warm lemon juice during fasting to prevent flatulence. Caloric restriction is also shown to have other major health benefits such as reduced risks of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, immune disorders, etc.,

13. Sindoor

Sindoor is made by mixing turmeric-lime and mercury. Due to its intrinsic properties, mercury helps regulate blood pressure and also stimulates sexual drive. Mercury is also proven to have a calming effect on the brain.
